Resolution on the Need for a Standing University Library Committee
Date
Whereas, a system-wide Standing Library Committee has not yet been formed; and
Whereas complex issues that the academy is compelled to deal with during the transition from traditional to electronic forms of scholarly communication and the development of alternate venues to costly commercial print and electronic works necessitate collegial and open dialog among faculty, librarians, and administrators.
Therefore, be it resolved that the New Brunswick Faculty Council asks that:
1. A Standing System-wide Library Committee composed of faculty, selected members of faculty councils and the university senate, librarians, and administrators be established in the 2001-2002 academic year to provide continuity of advice on a broad range of issues such as: collections, buildings, digital projects, new services, policies and budgeting.
2. All academic units appoint faculty to identify and interact with librarians assigned to their schools and departments in order to communicate specific needs and be informed, in a timely manner, of plans and decisions being made that affect their access to print and online resources at Rutgers University.
3. Librarians strengthen their efforts to develop liaisons with faculty in their assigned schools and departments.
