Resolution on the Presidential Search Process

Whereas, the choice of its next president is critical to the future of Rutgers as a leading public research university; and

Whereas, it is important that faculty join with the Board of Governors and other members of the university community to assure the success of the search; and

Whereas, the New Brunswick Faculty Council stands ready to assist in the search process,

Therefore, be it resolved that the New Brunswick Faculty Council 

1. urges the Rutgers Board of Governors i)  to carry out a comprehensive international presidential search to assure that the most highly qualified candidates are considered for the position and ii)  to insure that appropriate faculty members, including those with strong experience in faculty governance, play a major role on the search committee and in the design of the search process.

2. charges its Chair with writing to the Board of Governors to transmit the above resolution, to express the willingness of the Faculty Council Executive Cabinet to meet with the Board to discuss the search process, and to provide the Board with a separate list of  past and present Chairs of the Faculty Council as candidates for membership on the search committee.
