Resolution on TA/GA Support

Whereas, the stipends awarded graduate students are critical both as salaries for skilled teaching and as means for attracting high quality students to our graduate programs; and

Whereas, Rutgers assistantship stipends are near the national average, but they are less than those of some of the schools with which we directly compete for top quality graduate students.

Therefore be it resolved that the Faculty Council supports an increase of at least10% in the stipend for teaching assistants and graduate assistants;

Be it further resolved that the AAUP and Administration bargaining teams should explore the possibility of flexible TA/GA compensation where necessary to recruit and retain highly qualified graduate students.
